The irony of this is that you might have bought tools because of FOMO (Fear of Missing Out) and believing that the tool will do its magic. It is a dilemma which I, myself, have experienced – the shiny object syndrome. When it comes to choosing the best marketing tools, it could be confusing for online marketers. Being desperate and optimistic to obtain the best tools, many online marketers end up with marketing tools which either they never used or did not find success using them. 

Hence, it is time stop the shiny object syndrome and start having a marketing strategy that works.

2. Copy What Works

A frequent question that pops-up for online marketers is, “How do you know which are the efficient marketing tools you need when you start out, and that they work for you?”. There is an old saying, “Copy what works!”. Just do this, copy what works.

You find someone who has already achieved the success you crave for. You could learn from him and copy his strategies and use the tools he used.

That are many heroes in your niche but you merely seek the one whom you can learn from. Follow that hero who is the expert in what you are seeking. Emulate what works for him in his marketing strategies, learn the tools he used, research every tool that has worked in his business. Do your homework by researching the strategies and the marketing tool the expert used. You could follow him blindly but I would not recommend that at all. The reason for this is that the problem arises when you find out that the marketing tools he used to achieve success 2 years ago aren’t the tools that are compatible for today’s digital age. He might have updated this information somewhere online but you might have miss that.

Therefore, always do your own research which are not time-consuming considering that you are only cross-checking. Slacking in this might pose cumbersome for yourself at a later stage. It will definitely cost you time and money. Hence, take just a few minutes to do your homework.

5. Have a Plan, a Map of Your Own

Following a successful expert in your niche does not mean that you can rest on your laurel. On the contrary! You need to navigate his strategies on top of your plan. 

Besides being motivated, enthusiastic and driven to take action, you need to know your bearing. You need a plan on a map that you know the answers to, “Where are you now, and where will you be?”. This means that you need to be aware of your current situation – what is the reason for having an online marketing business (or your niche) and what are your goals, what do you ultimately want to achieve.
